The Del Norte County Board of Supervisors on Thursday will discuss a proposed pay freeze for a handful of employees.

The proposed pay freeze comes as the hourly California minimum wage is set to increase to $15.50 starting Jan. 1. Under the county’s current salary schedules, the freeze will impact employees at Step A in the salary ranges of 24 and 25, according to the county’s staff report.

These positions include Cook II, Custodian II, Eligibility Specialist I, Intake Worker I, Juvenile Correction Technician I, Legal Clerk I, Legal Process Clerk I, Medical Records Clerk I, Office Assistant III and Vocational Assistant I.

New hires in these positions will be advanced to Step B in the salary schedule due to the minimum wage increase, according to the staff report.

County supervisors are also expected to discuss a $20,500 budget transfer to replace a failed water heater at the Del Norte County Jail.

The Board will also hold a closed session meeting to discuss litigation and personnel matters with County Administration Officer Neal Lopez, the Del Norte County Employees Association and the chief probation officer.

The Board of Supervisors will meet at 2 p.m. in the Flynn Center, 981 H Street in Crescent City and via Zoom.
