Yurok Tribe Orders Non-essential Employees to Work From Home As Delta Variant Spreads

From a Yurok Tribe Facebook post Friday:

Today, in response to the serious health risks associated with the fast-spreading Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus, the Yurok Public Health Officer issued an order requiring all non-essential tribal government staff to work from home until Monday, August 30.
This directive will not hinder the delivery of most tribal services. The Tribe has instituted an excellent virtual framework that enables its staff to work effectively from home and almost all tribal services will continue to be available. This biggest impact will be to the Klamath Head Start, which will close this Monday.
The extremely contagious Delta variant is quickly spreading in the local area. Last week, Yurok Public Health Officer Hollie Strahm issued an order mandating that masks must be worn while in public indoor spaces on the reservation. Strahm also strongly encouraged people to get vaccinated if they haven’t already. According to recent data, those who are not vaccinated generally encounter much worse symptoms and are much more likely to be hospitalized if infected by the Delta variant.
“The data is clear. Otherwise healthy people who are vaccinated and contract COVID experience significantly less severe symptoms than those who are not vaccinated. If you haven’t already, it is important to get vaccinated as quickly as possible,” said Yurok Public Health Officer Hollie Strahm. “Please refrain from attending large gatherings, wash hands frequently and wear a mask while in public indoor spaces. Additionally, please get tested if you feel any of the common COVID symptoms, including: fever, cough, sore throat, muscle pain and headache.”
By appointment, UIHS is offering COVID testing and vaccines for individuals 12 and older in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties. Here are the phone numbers you need to schedule an appointment: Humboldt office (707) 825-4101 and Del Norte (707) 465-2975.
