City Council To Discuss Lodging Restrictions Due to COVID-19 Pandemic Today; Press Conference Also Planned

The Crescent City Council will discuss restrictions on hotels and motels due to the COVID-19 pandemic at a special meeting this afternoon.

The meeting will follow a news conference at 4 p.m. intended to update Del Norte County on the pandemic’s local impacts. It also comes as the City of Brookings adopted a resolution Thursday restricting the rentals of any business collecting transient occupancy taxes including motels, vacation rentals, bed and breakfasts and RV parks.

According to a Thursday news release from Brookings, only healthcare workers, domestic violence victims, first responders, government workers, those in the trucking industry and others deemed essential by city, county or state will be allowed to find lodging in the above businesses.

From Brookings’ press release:

“This resolution is in agreement with Governor Kate Brown’s Executive Orders directing individuals to minimize travel, other than essential travel to or from a home, residence or workplace, for obtaining or providing food, shelter, essential consumer needs, education, ealth care or emergency services; for essential business and government services; for the care of family members, household members, elderly persons, minors, dependents, persons with disabilities or vulnerable persons, and pets or livestock.”

The Crescent City Council today will also revisit its March 16 decision to close the Fred Endert Municipal Pool and cancel city-sanctioned events due to the pandemic.

Councilors are also expected to discuss economic support for businesses during the pandemic.

The news conference will take place at 4 p.m. and will be streamed live on Crescent City’s YouTube channel.

The special City Council meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. and will also be streamed live on YouTube.
