HSU Extends Scholarship to Del Norte High School Students; President To Visit DNHS, Crescent Elk
Humboldt State University will extend its "Humboldt First" scholarship to Del Norte High School seniors.
From HSU:
HSU to Offer Admission, Scholarships and to Motivate Del Norte County Students
A group of Del Norte High School seniors will be offered Humboldt State University’s new $4,000 Humboldt First Scholarship for locals who enroll as freshmen.
They will also be offered admission next fall--even if they haven’t applied yet.
President Tom Jackson, Jr. and Jason Meriwether, Vice President of Enrollment Management, will be on hand to make both offers at Del Norte High School’s gymnasium at 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 9.
They will also be speaking to hundreds of students at Crescent Elk Middle School, in the auditorium at 10:15 a.m.) on Thursday, Feb. 9, encouraging them to prepare for college early and explore various support programs.
The Humboldt First Scholarship is guaranteed to students graduating from high school in Humboldt, Del Norte, Mendocino, and Trinity counties who enroll at HSU starting in Fall 2020. The scholarship will be renewed every year for up to four years, up to a total of $4,000, as long as the student is making satisfactory academic progress. The scholarship was created with $250,000 in donations from alumni and others.
The approach of offering some students admission to HSU before they even apply is also new this year. It is an option being offered to the principals and counselors of select high schools.
