Del Norte County To Conduct Annual Homelessness Survey, Seeks Donations

County staff seek clothing, socks, camping gear, backpacks, blankets and other non-perishable items as they gear up for the annual survey of Del Norte’s homeless population.

The Del Norte County Department of Health and Human Services, volunteers and other local stakeholders will conduct the Point-in-Time Count from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Veterans Memorial Hall in Crescent City.

This survey is anonymous and collects basic information with the goal of identifying and understanding the needs Del Norters struggling with homelessness face, according to a Del Norte County flyer.

Meanwhile, county staff are seeking donations for non-perishable and non-monetary items for the share table. Last year, those who took part in the survey also benefitted from receiving gently-used clothing, especially socks, camping gear, backpacks, blankets, dry pet food and tarps. Leftover items will be donated to an organization who can give them to those in need following the survey.

People can drop off donations the day of the event at the Veterans Hall.

A small meal will be provided to survey participants. Local organizations will be available to provide information about resources.

For more information about donating, call Rebecca Green or Misty Malloroy at DHHS at (707) 464-3191 or visit DHHS at 880 Northcrest Drive in Crescent City.
