Del Norte County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating human skeletal remains found in an abandoned camp trailer at Elk Valley Storage last week.

The remains appear to be male and may have been in the trailer for about a year, according to a DNSO news release Thursday. Based on personal belongings found in the trailer, authorities believe they know the identity of the decedent, according to the news release. However, they are waiting on DNA results for confirmation.

The sheriff’s office was notified of the discovery on Jan. 9, according to the news release. The cause of death is undetermined as of this time. The case is still under investigation, according to the news release.
