City Makes Bill Gillespie's Fire Chief Job Permanent
After serving for about a year and a half as Crescent City Fire and Rescue's interim fire chief, Bill Gillespie will take on the role permanently.

The City of Crescent City is very excited to announce the upcoming appointment of our next Fire Chief for Crescent City Fire and Rescue.
The selected applicant was invited for an initial interview with representatives from Crescent Fire Protection District, Crescent City Police Department, Fire Chief from the Office of Correctional Safety, Del Norte County Sheriff's Office, Fortuna Fire, County of Del Norte Office of Emergency Services and the Del Norte Unified School District.
The candidate was also required to meet representatives from the Crescent City, City Council and the Crescent Fire Protection District during a 2x2 discussion.
The City is pleased to announce that William "Bill" Gillespie has been selected for the Fire Chief position with Crescent City Fire and Rescue. Mr. Gillespie's contract will go before the Crescent City Fire Protection District on January 13, 2020 and before City Council on January 21, 2020.
Bill has been serving our community in the Interim Fire Chief's position since April 2018. Fire Chief Gillespie comes to us with over 32 years of service within fire service; both volunteer and career. Bill also holds a Bachelor's degree in Occupational Studies focused on Emergency Services from California State University of Long Beach, and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program.
Previously, Fire Chief Gillespie was with the Eureka Fire Department/Humboldt Bay (becoming Humboldt Bay Fire in 2012) for over 20 years moving up the ranks from a Firefighter, 3 years as a Captain, over 7 years as Assistant Fire Chief and almost 2 years as Fire Chief.
