Heightened Police Presence at CR Del Norte After Juvenile Makes Alleged Threats


A heightened police presence will be at College of the Redwoods Del Norte campus today after a juvenile made a potential threat Monday evening.

The Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office determined the complaint of threats unfounded after interviewing the alleged suspect, who was taking part in a program at the college, school faculty, witnesses and others involved, according to a DNSO Facebook post Tuesday. Deputies searched physical property and digital media.

According to the sheriff’s office, no threats were able to be sustained and no weapons were found.

Though the complaint of threats is considered unfounded, the investigation remains active, according to the sheriff’s office. The student in question was directed not to be on school grounds until further notice, according to the sheriff’s office, and extra law enforcement will be on the CR campus.

During the evening of August 5th, the DNSO was contacted regarding a potential threat made by a juvenile student currently attending a program at College of the Redwoods, Crescent City campus.

DNSO staff conducted multiple interviews throughout the night which included the alleged suspect, school faculty, witnesses and other parties involved. Searches were conducted of physical property and digital media. No threats were able to be sustained and no weapons were located.

At this time the complaint of threats is considered unfounded but the investigation remains active. There will be an extra law enforcement presence at our schools and the student in question was directed to not be on school grounds until further notice.
