SUV Leaves Highway 199, Drives Into Middle Fork Smith River

For unknown reasons, an SUV drove off of Highway 199 and into the Middle Fork Smith River at approximately 8 a.m. near Patrick Creek Road today.

According to the CHP incident report, multiple people were attempting to help one of the occupants exit the vehicle after the crash.

The Del Norte County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue team was dispatched to the scene, but only minor injuries were reported as a result of the crash

A 100-foot cable was used to pull the vehicle out of the water.

The roadway was cleared at 11 a.m.
