Vehicle v. Bear Outside Pelican Bay State Prison

A Pelican Bay State Prison employee struck and likely killed a bear on Lake Earl Drive this morning, outside of the prison facility.

According to the California Highway Patrol incident report, it's unclear if the employee was driving a state-owned vehicle.

The bear was reportedly still “somewhat alive” when the California Department of Fish and Wildlife was dispatched to the scene, and was eventually moved to the shoulder of the roadway at 6:52 a.m.
