Del Norte Library Provides California State Park Passes

Del Norte County’s library is providing a gateway for residents to explore Fern Canyon and other California State Parks that require an entry fee.

There are six California State Library Park Passes available at the library and the library can get more if needed, a representative told the Wild Rivers Outpost. People can also check out California State Library Park Pass backpacks containing mini binoculars, a compass, magnifier and ruler tool and several nature guides.

Though many local state parks offer free entry, people can use the pass to access the Fern Canyon day-use area in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. Passes are also accepted at Fort Humboldt State Historic Park and Sue-meg State Park in Humboldt County, according to the California State Parks web page.

The Del Norte County Library has been participating in the program for about a year. The California State Library Park Pass program run through 2024.

The California State Library Park Pass offers entry for one passenger vehicle or one “highway-licensed” motorcycle. Passes may be checked out for up to two weeks and are not renewable.
State park backpacks can also be checked out for two weeks. Borrowers are responsible for replacing any missing items when they turn them in, according to the flyer.
