Brookings Man Faces Manslaughter, DUI Charges Following Death of 38-year-old Woman


A 35-year-old Brookings man faces several charges including manslaughter in connection with collision on North Bank Road near Gardner Ridge that claimed the life of a 38-year-old woman at about 4:53 p.m. April 13.

The woman’s 3-year-old daughter was in the back seat of her vehicle and was uninjured, the Curry County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday. The child was released to the care of the Curry County Department of Human Services.

Based on witness statements before the crash, Lett was believed to be driving under the influence, according to the sheriff’s office. Due to his injuries, Lett was flown to a Medford hospital. Police arrested him on Saturday after he checked himself out against medical advice.

Lett was booked into the Jackson County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Curry County, according to the sheriff’s office. Lett faces charges of manslaughter, assault, driving under the influence, reckless driving and reckless endangerment.

In addition to the Curry County Sheriff’s Office, Brookings Fire, Cal-Ore Life Flight and Oregon State Police responded to the scene.
The collision is still under investigation and the Curry County Sheriff’s Office is asking people with additional information to contact their detective division at (541) 247-3242.
