Del Norte Solid Waste Authority Seeks Public Commissioner
From the Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority:
Public Commissioner
The Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority is a joint powers authority of the County of Del Norte and the City of Crescent City for the purposes of administering and managing all solid waste, recycling, composting, and household hazardous waste facilities, services, and programs throughout Del Norte County, California. This agency contracts and sets maximum rates for collections services, currently provided by Recology Del Norte. The Authority also contracts with Hambro/WSG to provide Transfer Station operations services.
The Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority operates the Klamath, Gasquet and Del Norte County Transfer Stations and provides required monitoring, accounting and reports to overseeing agencies. The Authority also manages the permit and post-closure maintenance of the Crescent City Landfill. Authority staff provide these services without any financial support from the City of Crescent City or the County of Del Norte, and without receiving a penny of taxes. The rates charged at Authority-managed facilities continue to be lower than other similar facilities in Humboldt and Curry Counties.
The Board of Commissioners
The Authority Board is comprised of two members from the Crescent City Council, two members of the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors and one other public member, elected by the other four. Each member is appointed annually, except for the public member who serves a two year term, subject to annual approval by the Crescent City Council and the Del Norte County Board of Supervisors.
The Authority Board has regular meetings on the third Tuesday of each month starting at 4 PM, and applicants are expected to be available to attend regular meetings. The Authority may also set Special meetings as needed, and all Commissioners are expected to attend all meetings whenever possible.
Process
After all applications are received, the Authority Board intends to set a special meeting for the purpose of interviewing applicants and making an appointment. Interviews and appointment will occur either at the regular meeting of the Del Norte Solid Waste Management Authority Board, on October 18th, 2022 at 4 PM, or possibly at a special meeting on October 25th, 2022 at 4 PM. All those qualified who have submitted applications before the October 3rd deadline will be invited to that meeting.
