Brookings Gets A New City Manager Pro Tem, City Councilor
Brookings City Councilors on Monday appointed Christy Wurster as city manager pro tem. Wurster will take the job over from Gary Milliman starting Thursday.
Wurster’s appointment comes about six months Milliman, the city’s municipal court judge, stepped in for City Manager Janell Howard. Howard, who was charged with theft in connection with a July 4 shoplifting incident, is currently on leave.
According to a city news release Monday, the Brookings City Charter states a city manager pro tem's term is a maximum of six months.
Wurster was the city manager for Silverton and Dayton for about four years each and has been city manager pro tem for Sweet Home and Fairview — all Oregon communities, according to the news release. She has also been the operations and member engagement director for the League of Oregon Cities.
Wurster has a Master’s Degree in public administration from Portland State University and a Bachelor’s of Science in business from Western Baptist College.
Also on Monday, the Brookings City Council accepted Brad Alcorn’s resignation and appointed Isaac Hodges to the vacant seat.
Alcorn won the Position 1 Seat on the Curry County Board of Commissioners on Nov. 8 with 63.36 percent of the vote to opponent Beth Barker-Hidalgo's 36.24 percent, according to the Oregon Secretary of State's website.
Alcorn will replace outgoing commissioner Chris Paasch. According to the city's news release, Alcorn said he was resigning from the Brookings City Council to focus on his upcoming position as commissioner.
Hodges is the chief operating officer and chief experience officer for Curry Health Network. A Curry County native, he has worked in the healthcare industry, including being an acute care nurse and emergency room nurse, for about 12 years.
Hodges will complete Alcorn’s term through 2024.
