There's Still Time to Vote!; Early Election Results Will Be Released at About 8:15 p.m.

Ballot submissions at the Del Norte County Elections Office has picked up in the last two days, County Clerk Recorder Alissia Northrup told the Wild Rivers Outpost.

Staff found more than 400 ballots in the drop-off box near the office door this morning, and it’s been “nonstop in here today,” she said Tuesday.

Del Norte County voters have until 8 p.m. to submit a ballot either by dropping it off at Northrup’s office at the Flynn Center in Crescent City, visiting any polling place in the county or if they dropped it in the mail. Ballots that have been postmarked today will be accepted up to seven days after the election, according to Northrup.

Meanwhile, it appears the number of people submitting mail-in ballots at Del Norte County polling places is out weighing those who are actually going there to vote, Northrup said. She said some of the polling places that see a large turnout on Election Day reported single-digit numbers in regards of people actually voting there as of 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

One polling place only saw two people vote as of 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Northrup said.

“They all had more people dropping off vote-by-mail ballots than actually voting there,” she said.

Initial election results from the vote-by-mail ballots are expected to be released at about 8:15 p.m., according to Northrup. The last set of results on Election Night are typically posted by 11 p.m.
