Humboldt State University graduate, Kathy Allen, has taken on the district ranger job at the Smith River National Recreation Area.

From a Six Rivers National Forest news release:

Eureka, January 24, 2022— The Six Rivers National Forest is excited to announce Kathy Allen as the new District Ranger on the Smith River National Recreation Area. Ranger Allen has been working as the District Ranger on the Powers Ranger District in the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest for the past three years.

Allen is a graduate of Humboldt State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management.  She started her career with the Forest Service over 30 years ago on the Six Rivers National Forest where she served as the Civil Rights Officer. “Coming back to the Forest I have always considered home is an absolute joy,” says Allen. “I am honored to serve all who live and recreate on the Smith River National Recreation Area and be a part of the Six Rivers National Forest family again.”

Allen says her passion for the Forest has always been an important part of her life. However, her number one passion is spending time with her family.  Allen and her husband Ross have a son named Cody and a two-year-old grandson named Jaxon.

Ranger Allen enjoys volunteering in the community, spending time with her friends and family, and adventuring with her husband.

“We couldn’t be happier that Kathy decided to come back to our Forest when the opportunity presented itself,” says Six Rivers Forest Supervisor Ted McArthur. “Her presence back here in the area not only benefits our Forest and staff, but all the communities in and around our Forest as well.”
