Three More Die of COVID-19; Community Meeting Thursday

Three more COVID-19-related deaths were reported to the Del Norte Public Health Branch on Wednesday, bringing the total count up to 30.

These new deaths coincide with 24 new cases confirmed Wednesday, making for a total of 248 active COVID-19 cases in Del Norte County, according to the Public Health Branch.

There were no new cases confirmed among Del Norte County’s incarcerated population Wednesday. At Pelican Bay State Prison, 15 inmates continue to test positive for the novel coronavirus, according to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation’s COVID-19 Tracking webpage.

As of last Friday, 39 Pelican Bay State Prison employees tested positive for COVID-19, according to CDCR’s COVID-19 Employee Status web page.

Del Norte County has had a total of 3,184 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic started last March.

The community will hear from county Public Health Officer Dr. Aaron Stutz, Del Norte County Unified School District Superintendent Jeff Harris and Sutter Coast Hospital CEO Mitch Hanna.
