Deanna Esmaeel took the oath of office as a new Del Norte County deputy on Friday.

Hailing from Los Angeles, Esmaeel recently graduated from the College of the Siskiyous Law Enforcement Academy. From a Del Norte County Sheriff's Office post:

Please join us in welcoming our newest addition to the DNSO team!
Deputy Deanna Esmaeel was sworn in today by Sheriff Apperson. Deputy Esmaeel grew up in the Sacramento Valley. She moved to Del Norte from Los Angeles County and is very excited to serve our community.

Deputy Esmaeel has always had a strong desire to be a law enforcement officer but pursued a career as a Film Industry Professional. In 2016 she saw a recruitment flyer featuring a female law enforcement officer and decided it was time for her to make her lifelong goal a reality. She believes that the culmination of her life experiences has prepared her to serve well as a Deputy.

She said "It's time for me to take everything I have learned in my life and help other people."

When speaking with Deputy Esmaeel, she is very candid about the tragic loss of her daughter to addiction. She has a strong outlook regarding the challenges that come with addiction and sees a direct correlation to criminal behavior and loss of life. During her interview, Deputy Esmaeel mentioned if she can stop even one mother from experiencing the terrible loss that she did, then she will have accomplished something to be proud of.

In her spare time, Deputy Esmaeel is focused on physical fitness, studies No-gi Jiu Jitsu, and enjoys equestrian activities.

She is a recent graduate of the College of the Sikiyous Law Enforcement Academy.
Sheriff Apperson said "I am certain that Deputy Esmaeel will bring a depth that comes with life experience to the way she serves our communities. I was instantly impressed when I met her and I feel very fortunate that she made the decision to serve with the DNSO."
