Del Norte's state senator will revisit the topic of COVID-19 vaccinations at a town hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight.

Sen. Mike McGuire's town hall comes after the Del Norte Unified School District superintendent, Jeff Harris, called on the community and the Crescent City Council to advocate for more vaccine in the county.

McGuire's town hall meeting will feature input from Dr. Timothy Brewer, of the University of California, Los Angeles's Fielding School of Public Health and Geffin School of Medicine, and Lori Nezhura, deputy director of planning at the California Office of Emergency Services. Nezhura also co-chairs California's COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force.

Meanwhile, nine new COVID-19 cases were identified in Del Norte County on Wednesday, according to the Del Norte Public Health Branch. There were 44 active cases in Del Norte as of Wednesday and no one in the hospital.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 1,078 cases in Del Norte County and five deaths. One-hundred and ninety-nine incarcerated individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
