CCPD Officers Respond to Suicidal Subject in Downtown
Crescent City police officers stopped suicidal subject from taking his own life Monday.
From a CCPD Facebook post:
On 4-26-21 at about 0915 hours Officers from the Crescent City Police Department responded to the 800 block of 3rd Street in Crescent City for a report of a suspicious male subject who had blood on his hands.
CCPD Sgt. E. Wilson and Officer D. Sanders responded to the call for service. Upon arrival Sgt. Wilson located the subject, a 36 year old male adult, at the back of the Chase Bank Building. The subject was already bleeding from a self-inflicted wound to his neck area. Immediately the subject then began cutting his neck area further with a razor blade in front of the officers as they tried to de-escalate the situation and talk to him. The subject then yelled for the officers to shoot him and kill him because he wanted to die.
Sgt. Wilson was able to quickly deploy his TASER, and although it did not make a full connection, they were then able to get the subject detained in handcuffs. Sgt. Wilson and Officer Sanders began medical care of the subject and applied gauze to his neck area as he tried to fight them and crawl away to prevent the potential life saving measures. The subject then stated he was trying to get the officers to take his life because he couldn’t do it himself. Both officers remained calm and professional throughout the contact and were able to provide medical care until EMS and Fire arrived on scene and took over. The male subject was then transported to Sutter Coast Hospital and placed on a Mental Health hold.
