Del Norte, Curry County Art Scene: Guitar Lessons, Art Galleries
Dale Morgan will lead a beginning guitar workshop for veterans, active-duty military and their families starting Monday.
Classes will be held via Zoom from 5 p.m.-6:30 p.m. and are free to veterans, active military and family. Family members can participate even if the veteran doesn't, according to the Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness (DNACA).

Mother's Day Card Class
Crescent City Art at 1228 2nd St., Crescent City, is open to the public Wednesday - Saturday from 12 p.m. - 5p.m. starting April 7. They will also be offering a Mother’s Day card class April 6 at 12 p.m. for ages 4-16. Ages 4-8 must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $5 per person, pre-registration is required. Adults may attend a Mother’s Day card class May 1 at 1 p.m. Cost is $15 per person for supplies to make two pop-up cards. Crescent Harbor Art Gallery was awarded a grant to provide free one-year memberships to its gallery for Del Norte County artists who are Indigenous, Black, or other People of Color. Funding for this award was provided by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act through the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, the California Arts Council, a state agency, and their local partner Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness (DNACA). Under a separate program, free memberships are also being offered to a limited number of people who don’t qualify for the grant program but who may need financial assistance to become a member. The Del Norte community at large is invited to become members of Crescent Harbor Art Gallery. Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness (DNACA) presents the work of artist Edward Reidel, who recently won First Place in DNACA’s 29th Annual Juried Art Exhibition. His exhibit “Del Norte Scenes” is on display at the 2nd floor mezzanine of the CEC Airport at 1650 Dale Rupert Rd, March 5 - June 17 as part of DNACA’s Art in Public Places program. Gibbons paint acrylics and features oceanscapes, underwater sea life, landscapes, and wooden assemblages of castles and neighborhoods, all with lighting surrounding, which makes them handy as night lights, as well. You may greet Brian every Thursday from 11 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. and on April 10th from 3:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. as well.

Manley Art Center and Gallery is located at 433 Oak St. in Brookings. Photographer Calvin Casey is the Gallery’s April featured artist with his exhibit “Famous Landmarks”, which features vivid colors and interesting local flavor subject matter. Recently diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, Calvin uses photography to stay active and slow the progression of the disease. Rainy day activities are easy with the book “Colorful Critters of Del Norte County.” The book is made for meditative coloring and stress reduction for adults, and fun learning for children, with hand drawn illustrations by local artist Rosemary Garcia. Highlighting the “wild side” of Del Norte County with colorful critters, the book includes captions in English, Tolowa, and Yurok, and at the end of the book interesting facts about each of the 17 featured animals are included.
