Here's what's going on in the art community for Del Norte and Curry counties courtesy of the Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness:

Creative Writing — Short Stories for Veterans
Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness (DNACA) presents a course of Creative Writing with teaching artist Sharon McKinney, Wednesdays, July 8 through August 26, at 4:00 p.m. Classes will be held at 501 H Street, Crescent City (please park in the lot behind the building). Class will cover elements of the short story, dialogue, character development, editing, and more. Notebooks and writing utensils provided, or bring your own. All workshops are free-of-charge to Veterans, Active Military, and their family members. Families may participate whether or not the Veteran attends. Due to gathering size restrictions, only nine students are allowed to participate at this time, and social distancing and masks are required. Pencil Drawing for Veterans
Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness (DNACA) presents a course of Drawing with teaching artist Sarah Broderick, Thursdays, July 9 through August 6, at 4:00 p.m. Classes will be held at 501 H Street, Crescent City (please park in the lot behind the building). Class will culminate in the Veterans Art Show August 13. Drawing pads and graphite pencils provided, or bring your own. All workshops are free-of-charge to Veterans, Active Military, and their family members. Families may participate whether or not the Veteran attends. Art in Public Places
Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness’ (DNACA) Art in Public Places exhibit in the Del Norte Superior Court at 450 H St in Crescent City is a collection from artist Arlene Krogstad entitled “Colorful Del Norte.” The exhibit is available for viewing through August 13. The courthouse is open from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. weekdays except for state holidays. DNACA’s Art in Public Places exhibit on the mezzanine of the CEC airport at 1650 Dale Rupert Rd. is an exhibition of works by Horst Wolf. This show is available for viewing through October 1. The airport terminal’s regular hours are 6:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. weekdays, 6:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Saturdays, and 6:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. Sundays. California Redwoods Art AssociationClaire Heasler is the Artist of the Month at the 2nd Street Gallery. Other exhibits include Susan Humphry at the Del Norte County Library, Catherine Balck at the Wild Rivers Foundation offices, with Carol Long and Nancy Bachmann at the Sutter Coast Hospital Infusion Center. There are an additional 35 individual artists’ work on display in the Main Hall at Sutter Coast Hospital. The 2nd Street Gallery will be open by appointment only for the foreseeable future. Coloring Book
The coloring book “Colorful Critters of Del Norte County” is a great way to engage students with a home art and learning project! This book is hand drawn by local artist Rosemary Garcia, highlighting the “wild side” of Del Norte County with colorful critters. The coloring book includes captions in English, Tolowa, and Yurok, and at the end of the book are interesting facts about each of the 17 featured animals. “Colorful Critters of Del Norte County” is available at these local outlets: Del Norte Office Supply at 240 I St, the Mail Room at 900 Northcrest Dr, and the Yurok Country Visitor Center at 101 Klamath Blvd in Klamath. Coast Redwoods Art Association
Coast Redwoods Art Association’s Crescent Harbor Art Gallery, located at 140 Marine Way in Crescent City. The Artist of the Month is Bettie Belitz, who has created art works in clay, watercolor, pen and ink, acrylics, and oils. The Del Norte County Library at 190 Price Mall is also displaying work by Eva-Marie Tanner-Klaas. For more information, call 707-464-9133.Gallery of Arts and Culture
The Gallery of Arts & Culture at 175 H St, Crescent City, will reopen Friday June 26. Masks and gloves will be required according to the Department of Public Health until they are certain the virus is abating. The Gallery has been sanitized and freshened, and will be ready to welcome guests and visitors. Brian Scott Gallery
Brian Scott Gallery, located at 515 Chetco Ave in Brookings, showcases more than 25 artists. The Artist of the Month to ceramic artist Linda Ross. Her ceramic figures are beautifully portrayed, using interesting and original glaze colors, and incorporating bead work into some of the sculptures. Please visit the Gallery, now open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. where you can enjoy ocean views from the third-floor patio. Located in Wright’s Custom Framing and Art Supply at 810 Chetco Ave in Brookings, the Fog and Fine Art Gallery displays many local artists showing a variety of media including jewelry, pottery, painting, and more. The Gallery also has a dedicated classroom that inspires new and seasoned artists with workshops. The Gallery is open from 10:00 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Saturday.
