County Budget, $41k Allocation To Public Defense Among Issues Before Supes Tuesday
Del Norte County’s 2019-2020 budget will go before county supervisors a second time on Tuesday
The Del Norte County Board of Supervisors will conclude a public hearing on the county’s budget as well as budgets for all 32 special districts within Del Norte, according to the meeting agenda. The Board will also vote on appropriation limits for this fiscal year as well as weigh in on the Children’s Budget and whether money from the Stimson Fund should be used to lease a vehicle for the District Attorney’s office, according to the agenda.
County Administrative Officer Jay Sarina introduced budget to supervisors at the Board’s Sept. 10 meeting. Though it was lean, he said this year’s county budget didn’t include the elimination of positions. Sarina said budget transfers, different types of revenue and one-time funds allowed him to present a balanced budget to the Board.
Top priorities include the county’s contingency and capital infrastructure funds, Sarina said. Money from the county’s contingency fund was used last year to pay for additional costs in the public defense budget on large cases, he said.
After hearing from the public, county supervisors agreed to a request from Klamath Chamber of Commerce president David Jones, who asked for $1,000 to be used for equipment for the Klamath Fire Department. That $1,000 had been earmarked for a cleanup of Caltrans property on U.S. 101, but hadn’t been spent.
In addition to concluding a public hearing about the 2019-2020 budget, county supervisors will weigh in on a budget transfer of $41,000 to the county’s public defender budget. According to the agenda, that money will cover accounts payable currently outstanding for fiscal year 2018-2019.
The Del Norte County Board of Supervisors meets at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Flynn Center, 981 H Street in Crescent City.
