Teenage Boy Arrested Following DNHS Lockdown; Police Say Possible Replica Gun Prompted Shelter-In-Place Order
Crescent City police arrested a teenage boy on an unrelated arrest juvenile arrest warrant after he allegedly brandished a replica gun at Del Norte High School on Tuesday afternoon.
Students reported that the suspect, whose name has been withheld because he is a minor, was waving a weapon around and making threats at the high school at about 12:43 p.m., according to CCPD Sgt. Ed Wilson. Officers found the suspect and arrested him on an unrelated warrant and continue to investigate the alleged brandishing and threats, Wilson told the Wild Rivers Outpost.
Law enforcement placed the high school on lock down while they searched for the suspect, according to Wilson.
Students at College of the Redwoods Del Norte campus, Castle Rock Charter School and Bess Maxwell and Mary Peacock elementary schools were also told to shelter in place, according to Del Norte Unified School District spokesman Michael Hawkins.
The lockdown was lifted at about 2:30 p.m., according to DNUSD’s Facebook page.
