Beachfront Park Meetings Set For Monday

Crescent City staff hope to narrow down a list of potential projects to spend $200,000 on at two more meetings focusing on Beachfront Park.

At the previous two meetings last month, Del Norte residents threw out ideas ranging from pump tracks to labyrinths to bankshot basketball. On Monday, the city will host two meetings to come up with a project to be funded through Proposition 98 dollars, according to City Manager Eric Wier.

At the previous meetings, Holly Wendt, the city’s recreation director, said the $200,000 grant is non-competitive and can be used for one project or a combination of projects. She said if the city meets all the requirements, it will receive the grant.

Proposition 98, the Park, Environment and Water Bond, was approved by California voters in 2018 and authorized $4 billion in general obligation bonds for state and local parks.

The project the community decides is worthy of that $200,000 will go before the Crescent City Council for approval in November, according to Wendt.

The Beachfront Park Priority Project meetings will be held from noon-1 p.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Cultural Center, 1001 Front Street in Crescent City. For more information, call Wendt at (707) 464-7483.
