Brookings Fire and Rescue Extinguishes Abandoned Campfires at Chetco Point, Reminds Beachgoers to Be More Responsible
Brookings Fire and Rescue Department press release:
Monday morning the Brookings Fire and Rescue Department was called to Chetco Point for two abandoned campfires.
The fires were extinguished by firefighters from BF&R and a Coos Forest Protection Agency engine crew.
We would like to remind those that have fires on the beach to make sure when you leave ensure that the fire is dead out.
Don't just bury it with sand, use water and a tool to stir the fire. Also don't build the fire in the drift wood piles.
If the wind needs to be blocked you shouldn't be building a fire. Firefighters respond to numerous abandoned campfires every year.

The Outpost also reminds you to never burn driftwood, as it releases a toxic, potentially cancer-causing smoke.
