From Caltrans District 1:

Caltrans is inviting the public to a virtual meeting to discuss a proposed safety project on U.S. Highway 101 in Del Norte County. The project encompasses roadway grade improvements, road widening, and curve realignment between postmiles 15.6 and 16.2.

To facilitate public input, Caltrans will conduct a virtual public meeting on Tuesday, January 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The meeting will take place online at tinyurl.com/damnationmeeting. This forum aims to provide an opportunity for the public to engage with Caltrans staff and discuss specific design features of the project before the final design is selected.

Key features of the project include the installation of approximately 350 feet of new Midwest Guardrail System (MGS) guardrail, approximately 150 feet of MGS special guardrail, replacement of an existing drainage inlet, construction of a new downdrain, and the installation of approximately 1,130 feet of hot-mix asphalt dikes.

The environmental document, known as an Initial Study (Negative Declaration), and a proposed Section 4(f) De Minimis determination (Appendix D of the IS), will be available for public review from December 22, 2023, to January 29, 2024. Interested parties can access the documents online at tinyurl.com/damnationdocs or in person on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. at Caltrans District 1, 1656 Union Street, Eureka, CA.

Comments on the project can be submitted in writing to Tyler Brown, Caltrans, North Region Environmental-District 1, PO Box 3700, Eureka, CA 95501, or via email to Tyler.W.Brown@dot.ca.gov. All comments must be received by January 29, 2024.
