Volunteers put on a special prom night for more than 60 special needs individuals and their families last weekend, complete with limo rides, tiaras and a catered dinner.

Thanks to the Tim Tebow Foundation, the ladies donned shimmering formals and the gents put on their best suit and tie and headed to the Cultural Center on Saturday. They traipsed down a red carpet, received corsages and butineers, came home with a gift bag and got professional photographs taken.

"It's just a night of fun," said Kenna Gavin, area director for the Special Olympics in Del Norte County. "It's going to be a winter wonderland theme. They will have a shoeshine and makeupstation. We're trying to go all out as much as we can and make it fun for them so they feel special and part of this community."

Gavin said she's followed Tim Tebow for several years and was approved to host A Night To Shine in 2019. Last year it was held at the First Baptist Church, but this year they classed it up a bit by choosing one of Del Norte County's premiere venues.

In addition to the grant dollars from the Tim Tebow Foundation, local businesses and private donors have contributed to Del Norte County's event, Gavin said. They also invited Curry County special needs individuals to participate, she said.
