OBITUARY: Irene Bliss Reidel, 1925-2024
Irene Bliss Reidel was born one of four children to Charles Floyd Huffman and Ellen Louise Meader on March 10, 1925 in Crescent City, and passed away July 20, 2024.
Irene spent her 99 years enjoying living in Crescent City and grew up exploring all the wonders of Del Norte County. She graduated from Del Norte High School in 1942.
She stepped in as a mother to her sister, Ellen Louise, and nephew Andrew Huffman. They both always held a special place in her heart.
Irene married Edward Reidel on December 26, 1963 and were happily married for 43 years until his death in 2007.
She worked as a clerk for the City of Crescent City, bank teller for Bank of America, and manager of her family-owned business.
Irene loved to solve cross work puzzles, was an avid reader, she loved to crochet and knit and always loved her garden.
Irene is survived stepson: Edward Reidel Jr (Connie) and daughters (Rebecca Dougan, Deborah Dumas and Nancy Chiappetta); nieces Kara Miller (Rob), Marta Brundin, Luanna Scott, Stacy Brundin, Nora Huffman, and Maryann Huffman. Nephews: Eric Brundin, Nathan Huffman, Jr.; grandaughters: Christie Reidel and Nicole Sills and son Preston; grandson Edward Reidel, Jr.; sister-in-law Nancy Ronjoin. Numerous great nieces and nephews; good friend and neighbor George Hansen.
Preceded in death by spouse, Edward Reidel, siblings, Charles Huffman, Nathan Huffman and sister Ellen Marshall, nephews Tom Brundin, Andrew Huffman , nieces Charlene Huffman, Karen Huffman and Sue Brundin.
Irene died of natural causes. She lived independently in her own home until three months prior to her death. Irene was a very strong figure in her family, she was always there to help. As a family we cannot write enough to share how much she will always mean to us. She loved us and we will always love her.
