[VIDEO] Crescent City's Bike Pump Track Takes Shape
YouTuber Gasquet Mike released an update on the progress of Crescent City's new bike pump track at Beachfront Park today.
Velosolutions and the American Ramp Company is constructing the course, which will be one of many amenities paid for through $8 million in Proposition 68 grant dollars. At a groundbreaking ceremony earlier this month, Crescent City Mayor Pro Tem Ray Altman gave a rundown on just what a bike pump track is.
"The pump track is for bicycles, scooters, anything with wheels, basically, and you don’t necessarily have to pedal. It’s your own momentum that keeps you going around the track,” Altman said. “From what I understand, too, is it covers a lot of ability levels. It’s anywhere from low to expert, and that’s what makes it exciting.”
Along with the pump track, a one-mile pedestrian trail and a passive exercise station is expected to be completed by the end of 2024, according to City Manager Eric Wier.
Other new attractions at Beachfront Park include a Tolowa interpretive trail, an expanded KidTown, an amphitheater and waterfront plaza and a kiosk celebrating Crescent City's sister city relationship with Rikuzentakata, Japan.
