Dave Kibby Jr.
October 6, 1952-March 21, 2024
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved Uncle and Brother. Dave was born October 6,1952. He grew up on the Smith River and graduated from Del Norte High. He was an enrolled member of the Yurok Tribe. He was also Wiyot and Pitriver. His whole life was dedicated to music and boxing. He started boxing at a young age while being taught by his father Dave Kibby Sr. In 1970, Dave won the National Golden Gloves Championship Bantamweight division and had a great amateur record. Dave made his way to the Olympic trials and continued to 33 professional bouts, fighting out of Rivers End Boxing Club. Dave and his brothers and sisters were all professional fighters and made a name for themselves in the boxing community. After the passing of his father, he stayed to take care of his mother and to continue carrying on Rivers End Boxing. Dave was a great musician, when he was younger, he enjoyed playing many instruments in his family’s band “The Indians”. They would play at county fairs and you could always catch them every fort of July in Crescent City on the water front playing music and hosting exhibition boxing matches.
Survived by his sister Darlene Buckskin, sister-in-law Debbie (Toddy)Thompson, nephew Jaimoe and his wife Brandy Kibby,nieces Bonnie Steele, Jamaica Kibby and Mellissa Wahenekaand her husband Harlan Waheneka. Great nieces and nephews Elijah Kibby, Isaiah Kibby, Kody Kibby, Kae’gaet Kibby-White, Isaac Kibby, Devontre’ Thomas, Tyra Picard, Khayree Kibby-Smith, Faith Kibby, Hope Kibby, Dae’sha Kibby-Smith, Ja Kibby Jr., Dae’ron Kibby, Dream Kibby, Appalonia Kibby-Jackson, Daniel Picard, Bryan Colegrove, Malakai Picard, Wes’Onah Thompson, Tre’ Picard plus many more cousins, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by Dave and Gertrude Kibby, brothers Daniel Kibby, Roger Buckskin, Michael Perez, Sisters, Wanda Kibby, Theresa Kibby, Emily Buckskin, niece Sarina Kibby
Private family graveside services will be held.
