Gasquet Man Accused of Shooting His Roommate Faces Murder Charges
A 45-year-old Gasquet man is accused of shooting and killing his roommate during a dispute that took place at their home on the 100 block of Toad Road on Saturday.
Deputies took Jeremiah Kirsch into custody after a third resident reported the incident at about 11 p.m., Del Norte County Sheriff Garrett Scott told the Wild Rivers Outpost on Monday.
When they arrived on scene, deputies found 40-year-old Sean Prunty with a gunshot wound to the chest, Scott said. Prunty died at the scene, Scott said.
Deputies arrested Kirsch without incident and booked him into the Del Norte County Jail on murder charges. He’s currently being held without bail, according to the DNSO’s Online Information System.
“It’s just sad to see violent crime across our entire nation and state on the rise,” Scott told the Outpost. “I encourage our community to continue to support our deputy sheriffs and we’ll do everything we can to make sure this case is presented professionally to the DA for charging.”
According to Scott, one of his deputy sergeants who lives in Gasquet responded to the scene immediately. Other deputies responded from Crescent City, he said.
