Two People Killed in Head-On Collision Near Lost Man Creek Monday
Two people died following a head-on collision between an Audi Q5 and a Freightliner tractor trailer on U.S. 101 north of Lost Man Creek on Monday, the California Highway Patrol reported Tuesday.
The collision occurred at about 8:25 a.m. when the driver of the Audi veered into the northbound lane and struck the Freightliner. The Audi overturned and came to rest with the occupants trapped upside down against the semi, according to the CHP.
A passenger sitting in the front seat suffered fatal injuries at the scene. A second passenger in the middle rear seat was taken to the hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, the CHP reported.
The driver and a third passenger were taken to Mercy Hospital in Redding via helicopter while a juvenile was taken to Providence St. Joseph Hospital with moderate injuries.
The driver of the Freightliner was uninjured. Alcohol and drugs are not a factor in the crash, according to the CHP.
Responding agencies include CalFire, California State Parks, Caltrans, the U.S. National Park Service, Orick Volunteer Fire Department, Arcata-Mad River Ambulance and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
