Don't Panic: Tsunami Alert System Test Set For Wednesday Morning
Emergency officials will conduct the North Coast’s annual test of the tsunami warning system on Wednesday.
The test will take place from 11 a.m.-noon in Del Norte, Humboldt and Mendocino counties. This is only a test. No action is necessary.
Del Norters can expect to see a crawler on their television screens or hear an alert on the radio followed by a voice announcing that the test is occurring. Those who registered for the county’s
Community Alert System can also expect test alerts via their phone or email. To register for alerts, click here.
NOAA weather radio owners with the public alert feature can expect their devices to activate, broadcasting the same message that local radios are getting out. The Civic Air Patrol will also be conducting a test of its public address system, potentially flying over some jurisdictions as late as 1 p.m.
