Crews working the Flat Fire near Agness are moving equipment and downsizing near the community at the northern end of the blaze while doing mop up and strengthening contingency lines at the southern end.

Crews are finishing a burn near Game Lake and have a “rind of fire” along the southwest end of the fire, James Osborne, operations section chief for Pacific Northwest Incident Management Team 3, said Monday. They will also conduct aerial firing in that area to “fill the voids” over the next few days.

According to an evening update Sunday, this strategy brings the main fire area southwest toward the fire line.

Crews continue to patrol the northern line of the Flat Fire for hot spots and are improving alternate containment lines on forest service roads 3313, 1503 and 3680.

Meanwhile, a community meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. this evening in the cafeteria at Brookings-Harbor High School, 625 Pioneer Road in Brookings. The meeting will also be livestreamed on the Flat Fire Facebook page.

The fire has been mapped at 25,572 as of Sunday morning and is 14 percent contained. A total of 1,850 personnel are battling the fire, which is believed ot be human caused.
