CCPD Hopes National Night Out Event Fosters Communication Between Law Enforcement, Community
Crescent City’s police chief says he hopes to foster a good relationship between his community and local law enforcement by inviting folks out to meet them on Tuesday.
Ten different emergency response agencies, including Yurok Tribal Police, the California Highway Patrol, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation as well as national and state parks will be at Beachfront Park. There will be three bounce houses, hot dogs and hamburgers courtesy of SeaQuake Brewing and backpack and bicycle giveaways, Crescent City Police Chief Richard Griffin said.
“The first 100 kids that show up can get a balloon,” he said. “It’s a pretty straight forward campaign to foster relationship between community and emergency services. The fire department will be there as well.”
National Night Out is a nationwide “community-building campaign.” According to Griffin, this is the second year that his department has participated since he became police chief. CCPD under former police chief Douglas Plack also participated in National Night Out, Griffin said.
According to Griffin, Officer Magnolia Valero spearheaded this year’s event. Earlier this month the Crescent City Walmart store donated 13 bicycles that will be part of the raffle on Tuesday.
The raffle is free. People can pick up tickets from the different agencies that will be at the event, according to CCPD Facebook post.
“We had a great time last year,” Griffin said. “A lot of people showed up. We’re looking to make it bigger this year and have great communication and talks with our community.”
The National Night Out event in Crescent City will be held from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. Tuesday at Beachfront Park.
