Residents From Agness to Quosatana Creek Campground Warned To Be Prepared To Evacuate Due To Flat Fire; Community Meeting Set For Saturday in Gold Beach
The Curry County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents from Agness to Quosatana Creek Campground to be prepared to evacuate “at a moment’s notice” due to the Flat Fire.
This Level 2 evacuation notice is dependent on fire behavior, the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook on Thursday. At Level 3, residents are told to actually evacuate.
The sheriff’s office states that residents along Old House Creek Road at the end of Oak Flat Road received Level 3 evacuation notices when the blaze started on Saturday. The fire then jumped the Illinois River close to Spud Road, according to the sheriff’s office.
“There wasn’t much time to do evacuation notices but we did a good job getting the evacuations out in those areas done and making sure everyone knew,” the sheriff’s office states.
The Curry County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to sign up to receive emergency messages via Everbridge. Level 2 notices are sent to residents via that system. In a Level 3 all sheriff’s deputies and Search & Rescue members give notices by going door to door, according to the sheriff’s office.
An infrared flyover wasn’t possible due to visibility issues Thursday evening, so the Flat Fire acreage is still being reported at 15,217 as of Friday morning. Fire activity is most active toward Lawson Creek and Wildhorse Ridge, driven by large timber and dead ground vegetation.
Crews are conducting small burnout operations to keep the fire away from Agness and Gold Beach. A strong onshore wind flow is expected to bring higher humidity, dampening unstable fire conditions.
Meanwhile, a meeting will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Gold Beach High School, 29516 Ellensburg Avenue. The meeting will also be streamed on the Flat Fire Facebook page.
