From the City of Brookings:

Lifelong Brookings resident, health care provider and hospital administrator Isaac Hodges is the new mayor of Brookings. Hodges, who was appointed to the Brookings City Council last November, was appointed Mayor during a special meeting Tuesday, December 5.

Hodges graduated from Brookings-Harbor High School in 1994, and earned his nursing degrees from Oregon Health and Science University. He is the Chief Nursing Officer and Chief Operations Officer at Curry Health Network.

"It is an honor to be chosen as the mayor of Brookings, and I do not step into this position lightly", said Mayor Hodges. "I wholly intend to exemplify both humility and courage while serving in this capacity. Working with the council, we will move to rebuild trust through improved communication and transparency. It is my hope that all of us, as a community, can move forward and focus on the shared goal of unity".

Also, during Tuesday's meeting, Brookings Planning Commission member Clayton

Malmberg was appointed to the City Council seat vacated by Hodges' appointment to Mayor. Malmberg, a Brookings resident for nearly eight years, is a Senior Civil Engineer and the Area Construction Manager for Caltrans in Del Norte and Humboldt counties

Phoebe Pereda, an accounting specialist for Chetco Community Public Library, was appointed to the City Council on Monday. She has served on the City's Budget Committee. The appointments were made following the recall election of the previous mayor and two city council members in November.

The Brookings City Charter requires the City Council to appoint vacant positions within 60 days. A total of 14 local residents applied for the vacant positions. During a public interview process, they were asked questions about guals and priorities for the City, and about current issues impacting city government.

"The City Council has a diverse makeup with a common desire to keep Brookings a great place to live, work and visit," said Council President Andy Martin. "The new council members share a commitment to public safety, clean parks, and a smooth-running city government while also being supportive of downtown businesses, and our tourism, timber industry and fishing economies. This council has experiences over a broad range to best represent local residents on the Council."

In November, longtime educator, coach, and high school councilor Kristi Fulton was appointed to the City Council.
