From a CCPD Facebook post Monday:

On 3-7-2022 at about 0805 hours the Crescent City Police Department responded to Crescent Elk Middle School for a report of a student who was possibly going to bring a gun to the school. School Resource Officer D. Sanders was on scene within a few minutes of the original call and began an investigation into the source of the information. During his investigation Officer Sanders spoke with several students who were the original source of the information. It was quickly determined to be an unfounded rumor only and stemmed from an altercation during the basketball tournament over the weekend. Officer Sanders is currently working with the Del Norte County Probation Department to continue this investigation.
