Brookings PD Arrest Suspect Connected To July 11 Shooting of Teenager


From a Brookings Police Department press release Friday:

On 07/28/2022, the Brookings Police Department took 18-year-old Francisco Villegas-Lopez into custody for Murder in the Second Degree.

After weeks of intensive investigation, the Brookings Police Department along with the Curry County District Attorney’s Office applied for and was granted an arrest warrant for Francisco Villegas-Lopez. This investigation stemmed from a shooting on 07/11/2022 where a 16-year-old male was killed. Villegas-Lopez’s exact whereabouts were unknown at the time.

On 07/28/2022 at about 7:46 P.M., Villegas-Lopez was located while walking on 5th Street in Brookings, Oregon. Villegas-Lopez was taken into custody without incident and lodged in the Curry County Jail for the crime of Murder in the Second Degree.
