Disturbance at Crescent City Pizza Hut Sends Local Woman to Jail and CCPD Officer to the Emergency Room; Chief Says Officer Will Make Full Recovery
A 51-year-old woman is in jail after she allegedly assaulted two Crescent City police officers and fought multiple others during an incident that originated at Pizza Hut on Sunday.
Officers responded to the restaurant at about 4:40 p.m. to remove Kimberly Raines, who was allegedly creating a disturbance and refusing to leave, Crescent City Police Chief Richard Griffin told the Wild Rivers Outpost on Monday. Officers arrested Raines after learning she had an outstanding warrant for petty theft, but she fought back, kicking one officer in the chest while she was being handcuffed, Griffin said.
Raines continued to fight officers after they arrived at the Del Norte County Jail, according to Griffin. One officer sustained injuries that required a trip to the emergency room, he said.
“They’re expected to make a full recovery,” Griffin said. “But one officer’s going to be out for a couple days.”
According to the Del Norte County Sheriff’s booking logs, Raines had been booked into the jail on trespassing charges and released on Friday.
However, following Sunday’s incident, Raines is still at the county jail, according to Griffin. She faces charges of resisting arrest and possession of a controlled substance in addition to the original petty theft charge, Griffin said.
