Missing Local Hunters Found By Curry Search and Rescue Team After Broken ATV Axel Left Them Stranded Near Collier Butte, Sheriff's Office Says

Curry County Sheriff's Office:

On Saturday at about 9 p.m., our Curry County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a 911 call from Gold Beach resident Jennifer Piper reporting that her husband Billy and her brother-in-law Jason Allen were missing.

Information relayed was that Billy Piper and Jason Allen had left their hunting camp about in an ATV side-by-side at 5 p.m. and had not returned.

Jennifer Piper advised there had been about twenty other hunters out looking for the two missing men but were unable to find them.

Dispatch then requested response from the Curry County Search and Rescue Team.

SAR members, Ryan McGinnis, George Edwards, Happ Flynn, Steve Dicicco, Mike Merica, Tad Bell, Jennifer Stansell, Joe Kolp, Jesse Fletcher, Mike Lang, and Wendy Lang, all responded to the area and started the search.

SAR members started searching all the roads leading to the area. At about 11:57 p.m., SAR members located both Piper and Adams near Collier Butte.

The ATV side-by-side Piper and Adams were in had a broken axel, which stranded them. Piper and Adams were given a ride back to their camp where they were reunited with their family and friends.

A special thanks to all the Curry County Sheriff’s SAR members who responded to look for the reported missing men during a time when it was in the middle of the night, the weather was wet and cold, but it did not stop them from their mission.
