Del Norte Emergency Officials Get Ahead of Wildfire Season with Community Alert System Test
The local Office of Emergency Services hope to prepare Del Norters ahead of wildfire season this year by holding a test of the Community Alert System on June 1.
Those who aren't already signed up for the Del Norte Community Alert System via Everbridge are urged to do so.
From the Del Norte Office of Emergency Services:
The County of Del Norte Office of Emergency Services will conduct a community wide test of the Del Norte Community Alert System (aka “Everbridge”) on June 1st. All citizens of Del Norte County who are registered for Community Alerts should expect to receive a notification at approximately 11:00a.m.
Those who are not yet registered for Community Alerts should do so as soon as possible. Individuals who have signed up previously are encouraged to update their Community Alert registration. You may register or update your registration by visiting preparedelnorte.com or calling 707-464-7255.
You may list up to five addresses (such as home, school, work, and family) and multiple methods of contact (text, phone, and email). Your information will not be shared and will only be used for emergency communications.
This test is being conducted as part of preparedness efforts for this year’s wildfire season. Other actions that citizens can take to increase their wildfire preparedness include:
• Create a “go bag”. This bag should include things such as snacks, water, a change of clothes, medication, pet supplies, and items to comfort or entertain children.
• Plan for evacuation. Consider evacuation routes and communication needs.
• Review important documents. Ensure your insurance policies and personal documents are up to date and that copies are stored in a bank lock box or with out of county family/friends.
• Harden your home. Create a fire-resistant zone that is free of leaves, debris or flammable materials for a minimum of 30 feet around your home.

We thank the community for your continued efforts to strengthen the resilience of our community. Please feel free to provide any feedback about the test by calling our office at 707.464.7255.
