Measure R Oversight Committee Applications Available

Those wanting to ensure Del Norte County spends Measure R revenue responsibly can serve on an oversight committee.

The county is residents from outside Crescent City limits to review budget information and input from department heads responsible for spending the revenue from the 1 percent sales tax increase voters approved in November. The committee will report to the Board of Supervisors on whether the money was spent consistent with the tax measure's purpose.

Applications are available here. The deadline to apply is April 2, according to County Clerk-Recorder Alissia Northrup.

Five members will sit on the oversight committee. County Administrative Officer Jay Sarina and Auditor-Controller Clint Schaad or their designees will be non-voting members.

Del Norte County voters approved Measure R in November 2020. The sales tax increase is expected to generate about $1.2 million that will be used for fixing potholes and streets, maintaining emergency dispatch services and mitigating blight and public nuisances, according to the county's FAQ sheet.

For more information about serving on the committee, call the Del Norte County Elections Office at (707) 464-7216 or email Northrup at anorthrup@co.del-norte.ca.us.
