An eighth person has died from complications due to COVID-19, the Del Norte County director of health and human services confirmed Tuesday.

That death was noted on Del Norte County’s COVID-19 Information Hub on June 30.

“Our deepest sympathies to the loved ones of the individual,” DHHS Director Heather Snow said.

On Tuesday, three new cases were reported to the Public Health Branch, according to the county’s Information Hub. There are a total of seven active COVID-19 cases in Del Norte County with one person in the hospital currently, according to the Public Health Branch.

There have been a total of 1,490 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Del Norte County since the pandemic began.

Meanwhile, the Department of Health and Human Services continue to seek a public health officer and deputy public health officer. They will take over from Dr. Warren Rehwaldt, who retired on June 30, and Dr. Palak Patel, whose contract with the county also expired June 30.

The proposal process opened June 2 and will close July 16, according to a June 16 letter from Snow to healthcare providers.
