Downtown Divas Cancel First Friday Event Due To COVID-19 Surge

Crescent City officials and the Downtown Divas are pointing to the recent COVID-19 surge as the reason for postponing its August First Friday & Farmers event.

The city is also pointing to the current strain on Sutter Coast Hospital as a reason for asking the nonprofit to hold off on the event until next month.

“Through this entire pandemic we have not experienced a case surge or impact to the local hospital system like we are seeing now,” a Thursday Facebook post from the city stated. “As such, we asked the Downtown Divas to postpone the event until a safer time.”

As of Wednesday, 12 people were hospitalized with COVID-19, according to the Del Norte County COVID-19 Information Hub. Thirty new cases were reported to the Public Health Branch on Wednesday, making for a total of 154 active cases in Del Norte County.

Ten people have died from COVID-19, according to the Public Health Branch.
