Gasquet Evacuation Orders Downgraded to Level 1 Be Ready; Big Flat Level 1 Order Remains; Hiouchi Order Lifted


Gasquet's evacuation orders have been downgraded from a Level 2 "Be Set" to a Level 1 "Be Ready," the Del Norte Office of Emergency Services announced at about 9:30 a.m. Monday

Evacuation orders from the Slater Fire have been changed. Everything north of Pioneer Road on U.S. 199 is at a Level 2 "Be Set," according to DNOES.

Big Flat will remain at a Level 1 "Be Ready" evacuation order while the order for Hiouchi has been lifted.

U.S. 199 remains closed between Pioneer Road and the Oregon state line.

The Slater Fire, which started near Happy Camp on Sept. 8, has grown to 126,333 acres. It is 5 percent contained, according to a Monday update on InciWeb. The nearby Devil Fire is at 4,149 acres.
