Evacuees Are Welcome at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds

Those needing to flee their homes due to wildfire will be welcome at the Humboldt County Fairgrounds in Ferndale.

Forty animals and 26 families are taking shelter at the fairgrounds currently and there's room for more, the facility posted on Facebook.

Gasquet residents were forced to flee their homes on Wednesday due to the Slater Fire. Though they were able to return at about 11:30 a.m. Thursday, residents are advised to be able to evacuate in about 30 minutes notice, Del Norte Emergency Services Manager Kymmie Scott told the Wild Rivers Outpost on Friday.

The Slater Fire was at 140,802 acres as of Friday morning, according to InciWeb. The Devil Fire, burning in the Seiad Valley area east of Happy Camp, was at 4,488 acres as of Friday morning.
