The Tolowa Dunes Stewards and Redwood Parks Conservancy will lead a foray to the Lake Earl estuary Sunday to remove European beachgrass.

In addition to restoring western snowy plover habitat, learn about dune plants and view egrets and herons and sometimes bald eagles, peregrine falcons and possibly river otters and Roosevelt elk.

Due to state COVID-19 safety measures, the number of people able to participate in this volunteer effort is limited, according to a Tolowa Dunes Stewards news release. To reserve a spot, email Jerabek@jeffnet.org or call or text Sandra Jerabek at (707) 954-5253.

Meet at the locked gate at the trailhead at the end of Old Mill Road before noon Sunday. There is a 2-plus mile roundtrip walk over level, somewhat uneven ground, though those with a high clearance vehicle can avoid most of the walking, according to the release.

Dress for the weather, wear layers, bring water, snacks, binoculars and a mask.
