Del Norte, Curry County Art Scene: Halloween Film Festival, Winter Festivities, A Few Repeats From Last Week
Folks wanting to get their fright on in a socially distanced manner could take in a series of scary movies including "Night of the Living Dead" in Gold Beach on Halloween.

Halloween Film Festival
ETC will be holding a Halloween Film Festival, Saturday October 31, starting at 1 p.m. Films to be screened include “House on Haunted Hill,” “Night of the Living Dead,” and more. Tickets are $5 per movie, or $10 for an all-day pass. Tickets are available at Jerry’s Rogue Jets, Gold Beach Books, or at the door 30 minutes before showtimes. The theater is located at 94196 W. ETC is looking for actors, musicians, and variety artists for their “Mid-Winter Festival” production, which will be held the first two weekends of December. Facilitated locally by DNACA, Poetry Out Loud is seeking local students grades 9 - 12, who are currently homeschooled and not enrolled in a public high school, to participate in the program. Poetry Out Loud, presented in partnership with the California Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation, encourages high school students to learn about great poetry— both classic and contemporary—through memorization, performance, and competition. The Del Norte county champion can advance to the Poetry Out Loud state and national finals, where $50,000 in awards and school stipends will be distributed. Funds for Artists’ Resilience Call for Artists (repeat)
The Funds for Artists’ Resilience (FAR) is searching for local artists of all types who are interested in creating new public art works with the theme of “Resilience”. Individual projects will be funded up to $1,000 and collaborations will be funded up to $5,000. The deadline for submitting applications has been extended to October 31. FAR is a collaboration between the Ink People Center for the Arts, Trinity County Arts Council, and Del Norte Association for Cultural Awareness (DNACA), with funds provided from the Humboldt Area Foundation and Wild Rivers Community Foundation. Grant Opportunities
DNACA is awarding over $12,000 in funds to local art and cultural organizations or groups that serve local communities of color, or whose constituency is mainly communities of color, including Black, Indigenous, Hispanic, Hmong, and others. This funding may be used for general operational support. It is not necessary to use the funding for new projects. This program is funded by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act through the National Endowment for the Arts, a federal agency, and the California Arts Council, a state agency. DNACA is seeking artists from Del Norte County and Southern Oregon for their 29th Annual Juried Art Exhibition. Artists may submit up to two pieces, and artwork that is juried into the show will remain on display at the Del Norte County Courthouse through Jan. 14, 2021.
